Name_______________________________________________ Tragedy of the Commons BIOL 106 Online Activity In 1968, the biologist Garrett Hardin called the degradation of openly shared resources the tragedy of the commons . A commons is an openly shared public resource. Individual users act in their own self-interest and behave contrary to the common good by depleting or using up shared resources. There are many examples of the tragedy of the commons such as fossil fuels causing poor air quality for living organisms or overharvesting fish in the ocean so that the population is unsustainable. Complete the activities and answer the questions. Part 1. Read the original Tragedy of the Commons article and write a 250 word summary.
