Social Advertisement Project University of Manitoba Course Number: FMLY 1012 The Social Advertisement The social advertisement item discussed in this paper is a short video on YouTube by Free Spirit Media about teenage smoking. The commercial was meant to sensitize the youth about the danger so youth smoking. In the advertisement, three young people are seen sharing a smoke, and one of them dramatically disappears. This forces the remaining two teenagers to abandon their cigarettes and leave the scene (Free Spirit Media, 2011). This advertisement is important to the community because of young people’s intense pressure to engage in smoking and drug abuse. If the youth are let to succumb to these pressures, teenagers are likely to start smoking at a very young age, and this would impact their health, reduce their life expectations, and reduce their quality of life. This advertisement serves a crucial purpose in helping the youth avoid the damages of teenage smoking in society. Knowledge Sharing Post One of the key topics of interest discussed through Unit three was the role of comparative advantage in economic growth. Comparative advantage is the geographical advantage that countries in a certain geographical location obtain in a certain economic sector as opposed to companies located in different economic regions. Sposi (2019), in her research, studied how this phenomenon affects various elements of economic development across countries. They developed an economic model based on input-output linkages. They determined that these environmental factors influenced at least 74% of the overall curvature in developing value-added industries in the economy. They also determined that this was more influential than the overall available demand for goods produced within the geographical region. References Free Spirit Media. (2011). Teenage Smoking [Image]. Social Advertisement Project University of Manitoba Course Number: FMLY 1012 Social Advertisement Project The Social Advertisement The social advertisement selected for this assignment is a domestic violence awareness video developed by Kaleidoscopic UK. The short video develops an understanding of the various effects of domestic violence and how this phenomenon develops in a domestic relationship that was originally meant to be a haven for the people (Kaleidoscopic UK, 2020). The main aim of the advertisement is to encourage people to take action against domestic violence. This video is important because the issue of domestic violence is very prevalent in the United Kingdom. For example, the video states that a call is made to the police every 30 seconds in England and Wales about the abuse. This shows that the issue affects many people, and some might be afraid to take appropriate action due to fear and naivety. Therefore, the video helps to sensitize the people by letting them know the options they can take in the face of gender violence. Knowledge Sharing Post Income inequality is one of the economic development elements discussed in unit four of the course. Income inequality is generally used to refer to the disparity between the rich and the poor in society. In their study, Roberts & Kwon (2017) talked about the existence of income inequalities among countries with capitalists’ economic models. The study concluded that the extent of income inequalities was more severe in countries that used liberal market economies. Therefore, the capitalist society is a likely contributor to income inequality mainly because of the nature of consumption and distribution of resources among the people. Capitalisms encourage the private ownership of property and resources, which is likely to leave the poor with limited access to resources, limiting their chances of rising from poverty. This research provides an understanding of the role of capitalism in creating income inequalities. References Kaleidoscopic UK.
