Students will use the scientific method. A good way to generate an experiment is to start by identifying a problem, conceptualizing the problem, and then identify a possible solution for overcoming the problem. Next, you will design a study to test the effectiveness of the potential solution. No data will be collected, as you will not be conducting your experiment. The assignment is only intended to give students practice in designing experiments. (For your paper you need to create an abstract. An abstract is a short summary of the purpose of your paper. It does not need to be very long, approximately 5 to7 lines. The paragraph above represents a sample abstract. In the abstract be sure and state your hypothesis by using the words – My hypothesis is-. Also, state your hypothesis using the words if and then. For example: If you use a blue pencil to write out your extra credit and take a test then the color of the pencil will increase your ability to remember the information. The “if’ part of the sentence is the independent variable the “then” part of the sentence is the dependent variable.
