I am require the help writing the Job competency- “Making an Effective Decision” – The Job is at at an EO Grade, but I aiming to show that I meet the HO grade criteria with the competency example. 

My example of making an effective decision is as follows: 

As an Internal Auditor I was required to review the Charitable Funds process at Plymouth Primary Care Trust as there was inconsistent performance across they Trust. I wanted to find the cause of the problem which involved me establishing the adequacy of their internal controls to ensure that all risk were appropriately migrated. 

I reviewed the situation by analysing and gathering information to decide the most appropriate way forward. I gathered evidence by having individual meetings with each of the Department Budget Holders, asking a series of open and closed questions to obtain their views. I review financial Statement to identify the best performing departments within our area. I visited Budget holders from each of the departments to review processes and procedures. I led a team problem solve using the data I had gathered which identified the main causes to the problem, we needed to effective promote the Charitable Funds process to all. 

I discussed a number of possible recommendations with all the budget holders to help develop the benefits and disadvantage of each of the recommendations. This helped encourage suggestions from colleagues across the trust and help the budget holders feel they had been involved in deciding the best practice solutions and helping ensure that all risk were migrated. 

I made an number of recommendations to the Director of Finance which were accepted Processes were simplified, budget holder responsibilities were reorganised, More help was provided to budget holders through a specialised promoter who was aware of charitable funds
