For this piece of the project, you will submit a paper that provides an overview of the department and hiring requirements. To assist you in completing this assignment, focus your research on the following areas:

Department History Locate the department’s website or other sources where you can find information regarding the history of the department. Review the material and summarize some of the important events of the department’s history.
Department Current Status and Facts – Annual Report
  • Locate the department’s website or other sources where you can find information regarding the structure and organization of the department, number of officers, size/population of the department’s jurisdiction (city population, size of county, etc.) any special units/divisions (SWAT, Narcotics, K-9, etc.), crime prevention programs and community groups or programs.
  • Locate the Department’s most recent Annual report to provide an overview of where the department is today. Read through the Annual Report and identify some interesting facts about recent events.
Hiring Requirements Identify the department’s hiring requirements. Make note of any educational or physical requirements and any background issues that are a bar to hiring.

Step One: Locate the department’s website or other sources where you can find information regarding the history of the department, structure and organization of the department, number of officers, size/population of the department’s jurisdiction (city population, size of county, etc.) any special units/divisions (SWAT, Narcotics, K-9, etc.), crime prevention programs and community groups or programs.

Step Two: Locate the agency’s most recent annual report or other documentation that includes information regarding current information about the department.

Step Three: Research and gather information regarding the agency’s hiring requirements for new officers.

Prepare a comprehensive overview of your law enforcement agency and hiring requirements for new officers. Your paper should include the following:

  • A historical overview of the law enforcement agency
  • Agency name and location
  • Agency size (number of officers) and size of jurisdiction (population of city, etc.)
  • Rank structure
  • How is the patrol group organized? (Squads/precincts)
  • Special units or divisions: (S.W.A.T., narcotics, gang, etc.)
  • What crime preventions programs does the agency have?
  • What efforts does the department make to engage or connect with the community?
  • Detailed information agency’s hiring requirements and hiring process for new officers
