Paper and Presentation on Sex TraffickingDirections attached.
Assisnment Goal fo rPa er and the Presentation The intent of the assignment is to develop your understanding of the different strategies to address various social problems, particularly by examining social welfare policies from differing countries. This added perspective will assist you in furthering your critique of US social welfare policy. Guidelines for Paper Assignment Process To complete this assignment, you will need to conduct research on policy strategies taken by one other country (of your choice) to addresses the same social issue you have already researched (low- income families and nutrition, homelessness, poverty, etc.). For example, if your concept map was specific to homelessness and the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance Act, you should research how one other country has worked to address the issue of homelessness through policy. Sources to Use You should have at least five resources for your paper: o Two need to be from social work journals (i.e. Global Social Policv, Journal of Social Work, and lnternational Social Work). The rest may be from organizations who have published research or from articles you locate online. a It is tempting to use documents found on the internet which are written on your policy, but avoid any which do not have a date attributed to it and/or no author. This makes the source much less credible to use as a reference for your paper. Writinq Stvle and Research Considerations 1. You may need to be creative with the language you use to research you r topic. Forexample, the term “child welfare” may not have the same meaning as it does in the United States. You could use “child neglect”, “child abuse”, etc. 2. The paper will be written in compliance with APA writing guidelines. As you approach this paper, it is critical that you give yourself enough time to find and review your sources, paraphrase effectively, paying close attention to context and mechanics. lf you are unclear of the guidelines regarding citations, paraphrasing and plagiarism seek assistance very early from Sources to Avoid the UWS Writing Center. Quotations should be used sparingly. You should never cut and paste from your sources unless inserting the material and the quote should be criticalto the content and flow of your paper. 3. Asageneral rule, all information in you r paper that wasn’t prior knowledge needs to have a citation. Here is an example: According to Jones (2011) homelessness in Minnesoto has increosed by approximately 20% from 2000-2005. The author states thot the primory reosons for this increose are higher poverty rdtes, less available housing, ond the housing loon crlsis. -this information is fiction a L 4. There are many resources for learnlng APA writing. Theyinclude: OWL at Purdue website: httos://owl. enslish. ourd e.edu/owl/resou r ce / 56O I O3 / u o APA Publication Manual (located in the Social Work lounge and UW-Superior library) 1. Summary of US policy in specific issue area (using your content map as your guide) / ldentify one policv that addresses your issue (if poverty, what is one policy that reduces the rate of poverty) y’ Provide a very brief historical overview ofthe policy o When it was passed and the context surrounding the passing y’ Summarize the policy that you identified o Policy goals o Persons impacted o Eligibility criteria o Services that are delivered o Costs and benefits (social & economic) o Reported outcomes Paper Outline (vou are encouraeed to use these as headers) 3. Summary of a policy passed in another country to address the same issue / ldentify one oolicv that addresses the issue y’ Provide a very briefhistorical overview of the policy o When it was passed and the context surrounding the passing / Summarize the policy that you identified – to the extent possible o Policy goals o Persons impacted o Eligibility criteria o Services that are delivered o Costs and benefits (social & economic) o Reported outcomes 4. Comparison of the two policies / Differences and sim ilarities 5. Critique of the US Policy / Given what you now know, what is your critique (strengths and weaknesses) of US policy in your issue area? o Are the outcomes sufficient? o Are the costs worth the benefits? o Additional critiq ues 6. Conclusion / What are your suggested changes to the US policy, if any? Guidelines for Presentation Create a presentation that provides an overview of your topic and your findings about the policy in the US and the other country as well as your critique. You are encouraged to use either PowerPoint or Windows Movie Maker to complete the presentation and should use headings for the slides that directly correlate with sections of your paper. Keep in mind that nobody, except for the instructor, will have read your paper so your presentation needs to be detailed enough that students understand the content without cutting and pasting from your paper. lt is recommended that your presentation be at least 8-12 slides.
