For your final exam, you will write a Philosophy of Classroom Management paper. The paper must be 2-3 pages in length. (Word, 1-in margins, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced.)

Here are some guidelines for writing your paper:

• Do not use the phrase “I believe” or “I think.” This is your philosophy – so of course it is what you believe or think.
• When you state an opinion, tell why you have that opinion or belief.
• It is beneficial to briefly illustrate how your beliefs will be carried out in your classroom.
• If you quote any resources, make sure you properly cite those resources. Failure to do so is plagiarism.
• Be specific.
• Do not be tempted to tell me what you think I want to hear – I really want you to write what you believe in.
• Make sure you proof your paper for clarity, flow, and grammar.

Here are a list of things you might want to address in your paper. You do NOT need to address all of these, they are simply here to help promote thought.

• What is your philosophy of classroom management (discipline, system, instruction)?
• What are your thoughts on the types of discipline (preventative, supportive, corrective)?
• What will you do to limit misbehavior?
• What will you do to support proper behavior?
• How will you redirect students when they break rules?
• What will your discipline plan include?
• What are some techniques you plan on utilizing?
• We looked at the thoughts of various theorist. Are you pulling from any of these? If so, who, why, and how?

Chapter 14 of our textbook provides two examples of management plans that include the teacher’s philosophy of classroom management. My advice is that you read over these examples as you prepare your own philosophy of classroom management.
