Guidelines

  • The PowerPoint presentation must be at least 20 slides in length; 10-12 point font; double-spaced; and include a cover page, introduction, body, summary or conclusion, and works cited slides.
  • Although this is not a scientific-type writing assignment, and is mostly creative in nature, references are still very important. At least six authoritative, outside references are required (anonymous authors or Web pages are not acceptable). These should be listed on the last slide titled “Works Cited” or “References,” depending on the format standard used.
  • Appropriate citations are required throughout the PowerPoint presentation.
  • All DeVry University policies are in effect, including the plagiarism policy.
  • Presentations are due during Week 8 of this course.
  • Any questions about this presentation may be discussed in the Course Q & A Forum.
  • This presentation is worth 230 total points. It will be graded on the quality of the presentation and the use of citations, grammar, and bulleted items structure.

Best Practices

The following are the best practices in preparing this presentation.

  • Cover slide: Include who the presentation was prepared for, who prepared it, and the date.
  • Table of content: List the main ideas and sections of your presentation and the slide in which they are located. The illustrations should be included separately.
  • Introduction: Use a header in your presentation to indicate a proper introduction. The following are the purposes of an introduction or opening:
    1. Introduce the subject and why the subject is important.
    2. Previews the main ideas and the order in which they will be covered.
    3. Establish a tone of the presentation.

In the introduction, include a reason for the audience to read the presentation. Also, include an overview of what you are going to cover in your presentation and the importance of the material. (This should include or introduce the questions you are asked to answer on each assignment.)

  • Body of your presentation: Use a header titled with the name of your project. For example, “The Development of Hotel X – A World Class Resort.” Then, proceed to break out the main ideas. State the main ideas, state major points in each idea, and provide evidence. Break out each main idea you will use in the body of your presentation. You should include the information you found during your research and investigation.
  • Summary and conclusion: Summarizing is similar to paraphrasing, but presents the gist of the material in fewer words than the original. An effective summary identifies the main ideas and major support points from the body of your report. Minor details are left out. Summarize the benefits of the ideas and how they affect the tourism industry.
  • Work cited: Use the citation format as specified in the Syllabus.
