Provide a 2 pages analysis while answering the following question: Professionel development 2. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. The nursing profession has been associated with caring, compassion and selfless service to the suffering. Any nursing department is staffed with nurses that qualify from nursing colleges that have instilled these values in them. The comparison between colleges therefore will be based on the facilities and resources that various nursing colleges can offer and the organizational framework on which rests the success of each.

Comparison

Nursing is regarded as a noble profession extending a helping hand to see patients recover from pain and illness. Florence Nightingale once remarked “nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter’s or sculptor’s work. for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s spirit?” (Nightingale, as cited by Evans, 2013) Nursing colleges the world over are instilling these qualities of devotion and preparing young people in the art of nursing. The difference between these lies in their size, as well as in the funding they get that directly results in the faculty and amount of research facilities they can afford.

The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has expanded substantially in the thirty years of its existence. The guiding philosophy of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is caring. This philosophy defines the way they teach, learn and practice nursing as well as how they interact with others in their day to day lives. The pictorially depicted dance of caring persons that greets people on the floor of the lobby of the college campus is a symbol of the contribution of every member of the college to the cause of nursing. The college defines nursing as nurturing the wholeness of person and setting through caring. It offers a supportive environment in which contributions of faculty and students are valued and respected, ensuring in the process that learning is assimilated into a cohesive knowledge base. Its vision is a world where caring is the fulcrum of health care.

On the other hand the College of nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago declares that it is an institution that encourages a spirit of leadership and research to find answers to todays most perplexing healthcare problems. The university first admitted students to the school of nursing that led to a bachelor’s degree in 1954. Today it is considered one of the finest nursing colleges in the country. The college aims to educate future leaders in the field from diverse backgrounds, and is committed to preparing its students to face the challenges of providing excellent and cost effective health care to all people irrespective of color creed and ethnicity.

Both colleges have excellent programs that include baccalaureate through doctoral and have an impressive faculty that encourages the expansion of knowledge and provides prospects for both education and research. The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has established eminent scholar chairs, with many of their eminent scholars researching areas like Alzheimers and related memory disorders, as well as holistic approaches to health. At the UIC College of nursing a third of the faculty are American Academy of Nursing fellows and six are designated AAN living legends. While Florida Atlantic University is ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as a High Research Activity Institution, the UIC CON is the home of two well-established Research Centers: the Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research and the Center for End-of-Life Transition Research (CEoLTR). In addition both organizations provide aid to faculty and students for their research.

Nursing colleges are doing yeoman service in educating students and empowering them with the knowledge and skills to provide the best health care to those in need of it. In addition these schools are also at the forefront of cutting edge research translating the results of this research into the areas of disease prevention and improvement in the quality of life. Both these colleges are engaged in humanitarian work of the highest order. Although the UIC College of Nursing was established before Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, and therefore has more campuses, both aim to be leaders in the field of nursing. Their state of the art facilities are a spring board to enable scholars and researchers in their quest for solutions to emerging health care needs.
