Submit a 1000 word (maximum) essay that addresses the following questions:

• Explain the role of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in ensuring that children’s products meet federal safety standards.
• Do you believe that the CPSC’s role in protecting consumers is too small, at an appropriate level, or too large? Why?
• As a consumer yourself, who may have children (or know others with children who use these products), what is your perspective on this question?
• If you were a manufacturer, would you find the rules and regulations clear and reasonably feasible to comply with, or would you find them overly burdensome or confusing?
• Can you propose an alternate way for the government to meet their mission of protecting consumers while lessening the burden on business? Why or why not?

In addition to including some personal experience or perspective in your answer, you should also consider:

1. The statutorily delegated authority given to the CPSC by Congress (perhaps referencing the CPSIA of 2008).
2. The way in which the CPSC attempts to regulate children’s products.
3. The requirements manufacturers must comply with in order to get their products to market.
