Please write 1-2 paragraphs for each reply this is as discussion board. We are using this book Dunn and Haimann’s Healthcare Management by Rose T. Dunn Make text-citation and citations. Reply 1 to Madison Dunn and Haimann describe planning through the use of objectives as an effective form of management, (2016). Within this form managerial planning, goals and targets are set and achieved. The main two levels of goals within a department according to Dunn and Haimann are primary and secondary. Primary goals apply to the business’ goals as a whole that are not necessarily obtainable from one specific department, that is where the secondary goals come into play, these goals focus strictly on the department and are much more feasible. (Dunn and Haimann, 2016).  Planning in my organization is not really noticed from the outside. Often times, anything that needs to be planned is some form of department meeting, or faculty meetings which happen once a month. Being a level 1 trauma center, a lot of things that happen are not planned and tend to be sporadical. The day to day happenings of our department are never the same, nor can be perfectly planned. For our in-house gastrointestinal exams, they are often scheduled during the day shift as there are more workers and doctors available to perform the exams, but on my shift (2nd) and midnights, the exams are never planned, and can happen at the worst times with much less staff. These type of ordeals make it feel like we have no organization, but in reality, there are much more organizational factors that we do not see, that only management or team leads see. Since the majority of my co-workers and I do not see most of the organizing and planning that happen, even for something as simple as creating the weekly schedule, it seems that sometimes these processes are ineffective. I say this because with each monthly team/department meeting that happens, it feels that a lot of the same issues are never resolved. They are brought up, discussed, and appear to be pushed back under the rug. But from a management point-of-view, there are a lot more pressing issues to be taken care of first, and I am sure there are resolutions being prepared for the problems brought up in our meetings, the general eye just does not see that step.  Reply 2 to Carlee 1. Management by Objectives is a concept where the manager and employee can set goals together and they work together on how to accomplish these goals. This allows for a happier and healthier workplace where the employee feels they have a say and that they have a clear understanding of what is expected of them and what steps could be taken to get a promotion. I personally like this way of management because it is one of the simplest ways to effectively communicate.  2. In my career, things can change in an instant and aren’t always able to be communicated fully. It is not uncommon for me to be moved around multiple Operating Rooms before 8am. Some of this is unforeseen and cannot be avoided due to short staffing in the surgery department. I would say that they try to manage by Objectives, but it is hard to keep up with the ever changing schedule of surgery. On the other hand, when things can be planned, they are generally done pretty well. When we sign up for call, we get to choose what days we want, we get to choose our work days if we are 12hour shift employees. This allows us to feel less burnt out and feel that we are part of this health system and our needs are seen.  Small and large goals are created each day in the morning. Some may include starting all cases on time with no delays, no employee injuries/accidental poke, complete all cases by scheduled end time, etc.  References: Dunn, R-(2016) Healthcare Management- Health Administration Press, Washington DC Reply 3 to the Professor Thank you Genesis, How is Horizontal Coordination achieved in a health care organization? Whose responsibility is it to ensure it’s effectiveness? What are some suggestions to improve the situation in your facility? John Reply 4 to Erin The organization that I work for is WellSpan Health.  Our mission statement is “Working as one, to improve health through exceptional care for all, lifelong wellness and healthy communities”.   Our vision is “A Trusted Partner.  Reimagining Health Care.  Inspiring Health” Our values are: Respect for All Working As One Find A Better Way Assume Positive Intent Do the Right Thing WellSpan, as an organization, is growing, with my hospital being one of the most recently acquired health systems.  Our major focus is to work as one within our organization but also across the system.  We are working to align and standardize.  Doing this allows us to leverage the most value from our resources and to offer the most value to our patients.  It is our desire to improve the health of the communities we serve.  Our four part plan to “engage, innovate, deliver and thrive” is the key to achieving our desired outcomes.  I see WellSpan being successful in 2022.  Working in healthcare the past 2 years has been challenging.  Areas where organizations were lacking became more obvious as the organizations were under tremendous stress.  Going forward it is important to analyze these areas and to look for opportunities to improve.  Healthcare has changed drastically as have patient’s expectations.  Organizations that are not willing to adapt will be pushed out of the market.  WellSpan is committed to continual improvement and finding a better way to deliver services.  This commitment is what I believe will allow WellSpan to thrive in the future.
