I haven’t seen the OEA in great detail, but I would assume that they would assess skills like data analysis and interpretation of data and things like that– things you would expect in science. [note: look of concern on interviewees face]. Honestly, I am not exactly sure, which is kind of embarrassing, um, yeah. I wonder if the other science teachers know this information, like specifically which science skills are actually tested on the OEA. Otherwise, I suppose we are just guessing at which skills the students need to some degree. We just teach what is in the textbook. This is probably not the best approach. Interviewer: How are these skills incorporated throughout the curricula? Interviewee: Well, in the past, students have been learning these skills through the learning goals associated with certain science practices, so those are kind of interwoven in our learning goals. And we’ve done a little separation of that to make assessment of content a little bit easier. The scientific practices have to be part of the actual assessment, especially for the lower-level kids, but I think most of the teachers in the department when we hire them, we try to hire teachers that really believe in doing science. And I think we’ve been pretty successful with that. We tried to develop a scope and sequence for science, but it never really came to fruition. Interviewing techniques need to be practiced and developed to help you prepare for the actual interview data collection for your research. Additionally, transcribing interviews is an important part of data analysis, as this is how codes and themes develop. For this assignment, you will interview one participant and transcribe the interview. Instructions You will conduct an interview and transcribe the interview for this assignment. For the Interview Questions Assignment, you wrote three open-ended interview questions to help you solve the central research question for your study. You will use those three interview questions for this assignment. Choose someone to interview (preferably someone in an educational setting and relevant to your study). Then, complete the Interview Transcription Template as noted below. Include the following guidelines for this assignment: Include a correctly formatted title page using current APA format. Use the Interview Transcription Template for this assignment. Complete the General Information Questions section with the participant’s name, the date and time of the interview, the site of the study, and the method (face-to-face interview, Teams, WebEx, Skype, phone, etc.). Complete the Participant Demographics section, including the participant’s current age, gender, race/ethnicity, and occupation.
