1-So this historical video focuses on early development in animals and humans and some groundbreaking psychological experiments that were done in the middle of the 20th century. What were your thoughts on the issues highlighted in the video? What did you find interesting, unusual, disturbing, important, etc.? Why did they do these experiments on the monkeys? Did they just not like monkeys, so they decided to torture them? How do these issues relate to us today and even to the fashion industry? After viewing the film and the next video, discuss them in the related Discussion Forum. (You can make this full-screen if you like.)

2-Canadian report on violence

So this historical Canadian news report focuses on some of the issues raised in the monkey video, as well as some of those addressed by Lambert in the “Legacy of Pleasure” article, and relates them to some of the possible origins of violence in various societies, including ours. What were your thoughts on the issues highlighted in this report and how they relate to the previous assignments? Do they seem to make sense, given that the various approaches we’ve been using to address violence don’t seem to be all that effective? After viewing this report and the previous video, discuss them in the related Discussion Forum.

3- The monkey video: This historical video focuses on early development in animals and humans and some groundbreaking psychological experiments that were done in the middle of the 20th century. How many of you have heard of Harlow’s monkeys? Perhaps you read about him in an introductory psychology class. Did you ever see what he looked like? Were you surprised to see him smoking around his monkeys while he was working with them? Today, they wouldn’t show that, perhaps because young impressionable college students might be influenced by this famous scientist to start smoking :>). But, what were your thoughts on the issues highlighted in the video? What did you find interesting, unusual, disturbing, important, etc.? Why did they do these experiments on the monkeys? Did they just not like monkeys, so they decided to torture them? How do these issues relate to us today and even to the fashion industry? What might these experiments tell us about some of the possible origins of interpersonal violence in society today? (Compare some of the issues raised here with Joan Lambert’s discussion in the second article in the “Does Anyone Still Remember…” handout we read earlier.)

The violence report: This Canadian news report follows up and clarifies some of the impact on society related to the issues the monkey video and Lambert talk about. My thoughts on these videos after everyone has posted to this discussion board.

You should have at least three separate thoughtful posts (extra credit for additional posts).
