Please be sure to answer the following sections in full sentences. (NO DASHES AND A WORD NEXT TO IT) An outline does not mean exactly what you’re going to say so please do not feel the need to put exact quotes and write an essay here. Most sections should be brief and only two to three sentences. However, make sure the body is detailed, a minimum of a couple of paragraphs is necessary. This is not a long speech with a lot of details, therefore, there is no minimum word count, except for part two.

You MUST submit an outline to me for presentation approval. If you do NOT have approval, you can NOT present any of your speeches for credit.

Please follow the format of the outlines exactly, do not take things out or move sections. Please leave the labels/indicators in place, they help me grade. DO NOT submit an essay word for word of your speech, that will get you a zero.

Your self disclosure outlines have to be about yourself. You may speak about your hobbies, interests, goals, failures, fears, likes, dislikes, future plans after graduation, vacations, etc. Really almost anything works as long as it is personal. You can even discuss your COVID-19 pandemic experiences. Try to keep it PG-13, meaning… and yes this has happened in past outline submissions which is why I’m including this here *I don’t want to hear about your party habits, sex lives, and or drug use, (unless it entails overcoming addiction and this is something you’d like to share) etc.

Xia 2 Mark Xia Professor Pieciak HUC-106 7 July 2016 Your name: Mark Xia ([email protected]) Your introduction (The first thing out of your mouth when you start speaking) Attention Getter: Who here has made terrible decisions in their past that they regret? Decisions that you knew were wrong for you, but you still did it. I ask this question because I don’t regret any of mine. My name is Mark Xia. I was brought into this world in November 1991 and grew up in Woodside, New York all my life. I would like to introduce myself by giving everyone an idea of my younger years. Your thesis: (The main point of what your speech is about in 2-3 sentences) I turned to the use of marijuana in order to distract myself from reality. The lesson I learned through my experience is that in order to progress in life I need to accept my mistakes and take action in changing my life for the better. It was by committing myself to change my habits that I was able to get back on the right path. Body: (Your body should include your main topic which is you and whatever you want to say about yourself and sub points about that main topic) There is no limit to how many sub points you can have but at least two are necessary. Marijuana led me down a dark path where I lost myself; however, there was an impact in my life that changed me. After dropping out of high-school for the second time, I felt lonely and depressed. I craved any sign of attention so I began to commute an hour every other day for a year from Woodside to Bayside. Why, you might ask. My friends lived there and the marijuana we smoked was the only thing that helped me forget about school. My friend, Ahmed, would always plan to steal his father’s limousine keys so our friends could hotbox in the limo. Afterwards, we would explore his basement, which was interconnected with two other buildings, which we referred to as “the dungeon.” There were many crazy games that we played in that dark desolate place. It was all fun until one winter I was held at gunpoint on a train ride home at 2 AM. Two men entered the train from Corona until 74 Street Broadway. I was too high to recognize what was happening. I re-evaluated my life later. This was a wake-up call to get my life back together. I was going down a dark path and needed to make a change. I started working for my family and relatives at many different types of stereotypical family-related businesses such as dry cleaner, laundromat, restaurant, flea market, and selling counterfeit merchandise. Conclusion: (How are you wrapping all of this up, bringing it together, and what’s the last thing you’re going to say) After experiencing several different menial jobs, I became more responsible, knowledgeable, and independent like an adult. As a changed person, I took it upon myself to get my GED and pursue my college degree. There may be bad moments in life, but the important thing is to treat every one of them as a stepping stone to a brighter future. Each experience helps us move onto something different and shape our life goals. I hope everyone here learns to see their life in a different perspective as I have with mine. Part two: Minimum 100 words: Why did you pick this specific part of yourself to speak about, and what was the thought process that went into it? I picked this specific part of myself to speak about because it was a life changing experience. These were the years that I had spent as a teenager toward mid-20s, which are the most valuable years to any person. I had originally thought my life expectancy would be eighty years; however, one of my close friend’s father who is now over sixty years old said that you do not know what it is like until you experience this age like he has. Around twenty years old, we need to understand the reality that we are close to a third of our life rather than a quarter because sixty is the practical age that our body starts to shut down. The thought process that went into it was I had to select which stage in my life was most suitable for the audience and how I was going to relay my message to them.

Erik Quintuna Public Speaking Your name & preferred email address: Erik Quintuna ([email protected]) Your introduction (The first thing out of your mouth when you start speaking) Hello professor my name is Erik and today I will be talking about my career plans both short and long term and what I’m doing to achieve them. I also want to ask you if you plan on breaking your leg in the future because if you do, I might just be the person to help you rehabilitate it. Your thesis: (The main point of what your speech is about in 2-3 sentences) I’m attending La Guardia for the Physical Therapy Assistant Program. It is my career goal to become not only an assistant but a full-fledged physical therapist. It will be a long road but one I am willing to take and do my best in. Hopefully, by sharing my expected career path you can also be motivated and reminded of your goals. Body: (Your body should include your main topic which is you and whatever you want to say about yourself and sub points about that main topic. Make sure you use full sentences and include a lot of detail in here.) There is no limit to how many sub points you can have but at least two are necessary. I always wanted my career to be related to the medical field. Sport injuries always intrigued me mostly because I wanted to know if the player of my team was injured for a short or long period of time. Once the injury became known, I would always research it and try to find the estimated recovery time. Also, I had an injury myself which I had to rehabilitate which also helped pique my interest in physical therapy. La Guardia has a physical therapy assistant program that you have to get accepted to be able to participate in. One of the requirements is to get passing grades in core classes. You also have to apply for candidacy before the end of the semester. This is perhaps the most important step and one that I plan on working really hard. There is also an entrance exam called the TEAS. A passing grade of 55% is necessary to be considered for acceptance into the program. It covers 4 topics those being math, science, reading, and English. It is very important to make yourself standout, so just passing the exam won’t be enough. The program takes about 2 years to complete and after that I will be able to work at a physical therapy office. The working experience will be invaluable, and it will set me up for my long-term career goal of becoming a physical therapist. Your whole life can be determined in one semester which is kind of scary, but this is what motivates me every day to do my best in all my classes. It is important to set goals both short and long term so that they keep you motivated and constantly pushing forward, especially if it something you truly desire and want to achieve. Conclusion: (How are you wrapping all of this up, bringing it together, and what’s the last thing you’re going to say) Physical Therapy is something I am passionate about and with hard work and dedication, I plan on achieving my career goals in about 6-8 years. I hope to have at least reminded you of your goals and why you are grinding every day. I would love to practice physical therapy for a professional soccer team in the future, which is the ultimate goal, no pun intended. Part two: Minimum 100 words: Why did you pick this specific part of yourself to speak about, and what was the thought process that went into it? The reason I decided to speak about my career goals was to remind myself about why I am here and also to motivate myself and others to do their best. I wanted to go over each of the steps necessary to achieve my goals which will help me stay focused on the goal. This is the main focus of my life at this point, so I felt that sharing it with someone may also remind them of their goals and continue to inspire them towards their ultimate career goals. Also, by giving specific details of my expected career path, I was hoping to show the importance of having a short- and long-term goals which will keep you working towards them and lead you to success.
