DISCUSSION- MODULE 1: SINK OR SWIM

Advocates for English-only education assert that immersion into a regular English program is fast, efficient, and economical.

Critics disagree with this “sink or swim” approach and maintain that English-only policies discourage multiculturalism and prevent minority language students from reaching their full potential.

What is your view?  How do you think our educational system should handle the question of providing ELLs equal access to educational programs?  Outline your views and provide support.

Submission Instructions: Summary should be at least 250 WORDS, formatted and cited in current APA style.

ASSIGNMENT 1.2-

Program Placement

Purpose: To examine the major curriculum models for language instruction and determine their appropriateness for English Language Learners.

Listen to the sermon link posted on Moodle.

1) Write a one page single space (approx 500 words) reflection/response to this sermon.

Topics to consider:

Are we harder on ourselves than God is?

How hard was it for Peter to move on after his failure? How easily do you move on after failures? Why do you think this is? What role do self identity and expectations from ourselves and others play in the process of letting go of failure and becoming what God intends us to be “in spite” of failures?

How does our self concept play a role in who easily God can use or not? Apply some of what we are learning to this response.

MBA 540 Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

Great work! After successfully completing analyses of your company’s internal and external business environments, you have now reached the final project milestone.

In this assignment, you will conduct a buy-build-ally analysis of the company and recommend a strategy that the company can implement over the next five years to achieve the targeted growth.

Prompt

Perform a buy-build-ally analysis for your company and recommend actions the company can take to realize the identified opportunity within five years. Use resources such as the company website, which will have pertinent information including its most recent sustainability report, and other relevant sources to help complete this presentation. You can also use the resources in the MBA Library Research Guide to conduct further research about your company.

Create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation to show the results of your analysis and present your recommendations. Use both on-screen text and speaker notes to convey your information effectively. For example, you can use brief bulleted lists summarizing the highlights of your analysis on the slide, and include more detailed explanations where needed in your speaker notes.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

(1) Implementation strategy (slides 1–3): Recommend an implementation strategy for your company.

(a) Determine whether the company will need to buy, build, or ally with another company. Consider the skills, facilities, products, and services the company will need to capitalize on the identified opportunity.

(b) Use the speaker notes of your presentation to explain the strategy behind your buy, build, and ally recommendations.

(2) Timeline (slides 4–5): Construct a timeline showing what your company should achieve by the end of each year for the next five years.

What to Submit

Create a PowerPoint presentation with 5–7 slides. Sources should be cited according to APA style. Consult the Shapiro Library APA Style Guide for more information on citations.

English 102 Activity 4: Reflection Activity Assignment Guidelines In this course, there are 4 activities to complete. Two of the lowest graded activities of the 4 submitted activities will be dropped. That means that you may submit all 4 activities and the two lowest graded activities will be dropped or you may submit only 2 of the 4 activities and the two zeroes will be dropped; it’s up to you. These activities are less formal, long answer assignments designed to give you the opportunity to engage with the course materials in a deeper way, and to submit work for grading. You will be graded on your ability and willingness to engage with the ideas, but also on your sentences and composition. Therefore, these activities should not be completed last minute and you should not answer the prompts in point form. You should leave yourself time to think about and revise your work before you must submit it. All sources must be documented in MLA format. Documentation must include works cited and in-text citations. All assigned readings are available on mêskanâs or in the textbook. ***By submitting this assignment for grading, you agree that you have adhered to MacEwan’s Academic Integrity Policy.*** Activity 4 Assignment Instructions Choose one of the prompts below and write a 450-550 word personal reflection. Your reflection must focus on your learning in this course. That means that your reflection should reference specific examples/evidence from this course, such as completed assignments, instructor feedback/comments, and/or assigned readings. While this assignment is a personal reflection, it’s still important to be courteous. Remember, your instructor will read this assignment. Reflections are not diary entries; thus, it is not the appropriate space to air grievances about the instructor, course, or school. Likewise, you should not include any personal or private information you are uncomfortable sharing with your instructor. Options Choose only one of the prompts below. This is a personal reflection, so you do not have to answer the questions exactly as they are. Rather, use the prompts as a stepping-off point to explore your learning and growth in the course. 1. Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not? What makes someone a writer? 2. What were some of the most valuable lessons you learned in the course—specifically about writing, learning, or academic life? 3. How did the course readings, concepts, and assignments help you to learn about writing and reading? 4. If you could go back in time, would you approach this course any differently? What would you change? What would you do the same? Why? Grading Rubric Criteria Grade Response fully and thoughtfully answers the prompt. Response is logical, on-topic, and demonstrates comprehension of the course concepts. /6 Word usage, punctuation, grammar, even and organized paragraphs, standard English. /2 Use of MLA format, works cited page, and in-text citations. /1 Word-count (assignment meets word-count requirement excluding the title information and works cited list). /1 Comments: Total: /10

Hi Everyone!I decided to do my part in the project on the rise of photography in the modern world. I personally think it is incredible how now we can take a photo at any moment of the day because of our smartphones, however, it was not always like that. Photography is dated all the way back to the fifth century B.C.E. It was not until the 1800s that photography became very popular. In 1851, the wet collodion process was invented which allowed for glass negative photos to be created in print style.  Collodion is a solution of nitrocellulose in alcohol and ether. When the solvents evaporate, a plastic-like film is formed. At one point, this process was almost universal and it reigned as the top technique for almost thirty years. Another important invention during this time was the albumen paper created by Louis- Desire Blanquart-Evrard. This paper was what the glass plate negatives were printed on. In 1854, photography was revolutionized yet again by Andre-Adolphe-Eugene Disderi, he created what later was called the carte-de-visite. This was different because of the size of the mounted albumen print. Disderi was able to use a four-lens camera to produce eight negatives on a single glass plate (Photography 5). Each picture was allowed to be posed separately, or use different exposures at the same time. However, this allowed photographers to be able to sensitize only one single sheet of glass instead of eight at once.  Some later inventions included the dry plates, the motion picture, and the Kodak Camera. In the early 1900s to mid-1900s the genres of photography became popular including portraits, landscapes, and social documentation. These genres are still popular today with the use of mass media, photo news, family portraits, and the use of photos as home decor.  My question to you would be: How important do you think these inventions are to us in the modern world? Do you think photography will continue for centuries to come? How can we preserve these special memories forever? (P.S. I am still looking for someone else to do a part of the project with! I was thinking the rise of the film would pair nicely with this! Please email me if you are interested! I have a busy week so I am trying to get ahead on my assignments!)

5 Read the following scenario and respond to the following questions:

1. State how you would behave if you were in Candace’s position.

  1. Do you believe Candace will provide honest input in the future if asked by Britney?
  2. How could Britney have approached this situation with Candace differently to avoid the predicament Candace is currently in?
  3. Is Britney’s leadership style effective in this situation?

Scenario:

In this case, Candace has to decide whether she should give Britney the names of the managers who may be displaying favoritism toward certain employees or risk the ire of her new boss. Candace excelled in her position at ABCO Corporation and had a good repertoire with her previous supervisor. When the new supervisor, Britney, started her position, she asked the employees if they had any suggestions that would improve the efficiency of the division. Candace informed Britney that while staff worked hard, she had noticed some managers giving promotions and overtime based upon who they liked instead of the quality of their work. Britney, a no-nonsense type of manager, thanked Candace for her input. The next day, Britney met with Candace and demanded that she tell her the names of the managers to which she was referring to so she could create an example to show that all employees should work hard and favoritism would not be allowed. If Candace does not tell Britney the managers’ names, then Britney may view her as part of the problem.

6  Read the following Scenario and respond in 2 paragraphs explaining what should Saul do. Justify your choice. (30 points)

Scenario:

Robert regretfully gave up his dream of becoming a heart surgeon to become the family doctor in his small hometown.  Robert initially stayed on to support his father after his mother’s sudden death. He ended up staying and has helped many other families with quality medical care.  Many years passed and Saul, Robert’s brother, began working for him as his accountant and business manager.  While organizing his brother’s papers, Saul recognized what appeared to be Medicaid fraud. When he approached Robert about a discrepancy, Robert brushed it off as a simple mistake.  However, Saul knew about more than one discrepancy; in fact, there were several adding up to over $75,000.

Robert could go to jail for Medicaid fraud.  If Saul reports Robert, his own brother, how could that affect the family?  If Saul does not report the discrepancies and Medicaid investigates his brother, Saul could lose his license and face charges.  How should Saul approach the situation?
